Medicaid and CHIP coverage for low-income families is at risk due to enacted and/or proposed cuts, according to the Families USA report “A Painful Recession: States Cut Health Care Safety Net Programs”, released in December.
Key findings from the report show that at least a million people will lose coverage and that millions more will get less health care. However, increasing federal support for Medicaid and CHIP will provide direct aid to ailing state economies.
Indiana could receive $629 million in new funding, creating 10,800 additional jobs, and spurring $1.1 billion in new business activity and $383 million in additional wages.
