HIPAA or FERPA? A Primer on Sharing School Health Information in Indiana is released

6/28/2017

The Indiana School Health Network announced the release of HIPAA or FERPA? A Primer on Sharing School Health Information in Indiana during the opening of the annual School Health Conference before an audience of more than 350 professionals concerned with the health of Hoosier students.

Schools are increasingly working with community organizations to improve the health and academic outcomes of their students.  “Sharing information is critical for collaboration, but it can be unclear what  can be shared when healthcare is involved,” states Norma Napoli of the Indiana School Health Network and Covering Kids & Families of Indiana. “We hope this primer will be a tool to increase understanding of pertinent federal and state confidentiality laws and address some frequently asked questions regarding the sharing of information.”

The Primer was prepared by the National Center for Youth Law and is available free of charge at www.ckfindiana.org/resources
