Following the end of Marketplace open enrollment on December 15th, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released its snapshot for the 7th and last week. In the closing days 4,421,179 consumers selected plans using the HealthCare.gov platform, taking the cumulative total to 8,303,850. This represents a minor drop of approximately 1.8% from last year’s numbers. Indiana’s number came to 141,867 plan selections, down from 149,711 the prior year and representing a 5.2% decrease.
It is important to note that Marketplace plan selections do not equate to insured individuals. That number, known as effectuated enrollment, is only known once consumers make premium payments and take other additional steps to finalize their coverage. Effectuated enrollment numbers are typically not published by CMS until later in the 2020 coverage year.
