On 6/24/2021, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services withdrew its conditional approval of the Gateway to Work community engagement program. Under the program, many HIP members would have needed to document education, employment and/or volunteer activities to maintain benefits. The program never implemented enforcement of its requirements and no member benefits were impacted. Prior to the CMS decision, the program had been paused by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration pending the results of a federal lawsuit, and also in respect of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.
