Covering Kids & Families of Indiana releases Guidebook
In 2013, Covering Kids & Families of Indiana received a Connecting Kids to Coverage grant from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). Working in eight counties with six partners who conducted outreach in more than fourteen schools, a total of 4,994 children and adults were assisted with applications for health insurance coverage over the two and half year grant period.  It cannot be overstated the far reaching impact of this grant.  Beyond enrolling children in Medicaid, CHIP and Marketplace health insurance coverage, CKF-IN and our partners built capacity and were better prepared to meet community needs during implementation of the Affordable Care Act and Indiana’s 1115 Medicaid Waiver (HIP 2.0).  CKF-IN and our partners were also able to dedicate resources to building a foundational knowledge of school-based and school-linked outreach in Indiana as evidenced by our creation of Guidebook:  An Integrated Approach to School- Linked Outreach.
The Guidebook is being shared so that other organizations can join in this critical work to ensure that 100% of children have critical health insurance coverage and are healthy, in school and ready to learn.  The Guidebook can be found at  For additional information, contact Doris Higgins at
